People always ask me how I grew my pets’ Instagram account (@pickle.the.pig) to almost 200,000 followers. Well, it definitely took a long time – and then happened all at once!
Here are a few tips to help you if you’re on the same quest for Instagram fame!
If your pet is unique – that’s a huge win right from the start. Everyone has a dog – but does yours have special colored eyes? A penchant for a specific treat? A nervous habit?
Find what makes your buddy different and highlight that. If there’s nothing special, GIVE THEM a personality!
There’s a lot that comes across in the social media voice you choose to give your pet and how things are both shown and written. When you choose the best and most unique thing to post, make sure to add any relevant hashtags for cute and funny pets!
Photos show a lot, but videos tell even more!
There’s so much personality that can come through with videos, and so many video IG pages that LOVE to re-post content. Sometimes it’s harder for photos to get picked up (they may not look professional, may not match a particular feed, etc.). But with videos, there are a lot more opportunities for both pet accounts and just “funny video” accounts to feature you.
Find popular ones and tag them both with the “@” mention and by using any of their custom business hashtags. Keep your videos short and sweet for a better chance of being viewed!
There are many video sites that will partner with you to help get your content out.
Profit sharing sites like Rumble, Jukin Media, etc. will manage your videos for you to get them to a wider audience, and then you share any ad profits that come in from networks like YouTube, AOL, MSN, Yahoo, etc.
If your video gets to a broader audience on the web, they’ll often hunt down your IG as well to try to find more content.
Pro tip: I always watermark my videos just to be on the safe side!
Interact with your followers!
Respond to them on the account, ask them to tag their friends who would also enjoy the content, do giveaways, etc.
The more your account grows, the more notice you will get from popular brands, and they will start providing content for you to give away as well.
You could just wait around for your pet to do something cute, or you could make an event out of it!
Throw them a birthday party, give them a special ice cream treat, take them to a super popular local restaurant that might re-post your photo – just have fun!
Your pet will enjoy the time spent with you, and you may capture some great extra photos or videos that others will love too.
Although it takes work (and a good bit of luck!), these tips will certainly help get your account closer to where you want it to be!
